Our Teaching Methodology

We understand that anyone can shoot a gun; after all, it's natural for humans to instinctively point at things. Unfortunately, the store that sells you the gun or the novice instructor that showed you the basics of firearms handling never explained the most important elements when using this self-defense tool. You see, the classroom instruction is the critical element for anyone that decides to carry a firearm to protect themselves and loved ones.

If you find yourself into the fray, it means you never saw it coming; it's too late; you are now in the reacting phase. The best self-defense instructor is not the one who shows you how to fight as a priority, but the one who shows you how to avoid the fight. Often, I see instructors telling their students about the OODA Loop concept: Observe, Orient, Decide, Act. Their PowerPoint or whiteboard scribbles look good but let me tell you something: You can observe for as long as you want, but if you don't know how and what to look for, you will not be able to orient, Decide, and the action will never happen!

It is easy to take many concepts out of google and make it cool talking about it. As instructors, we have to go deep and make our students understand how important it is to learn to have the internal dialog about using violence to stop the violence. You see, the intent and conviction have to be there; the gun in your holsters does not give you courage. It's easier to de-escalate from this mindset than to have to work from a weak state of mind, in other words, be prepared to go all in 100% of the time all the time.

At Barbosa Tactical Systems, we teach all the above; when you finished the class, you will know what to look for and how to look for it, you will understand that awareness is useless when you don't know what to look for in any environment. In our classroom, you will master the full application of the OODA Loop Concept in conjunction with the Cooper Color Code. You will also learn how to understand baselines and recognize anomalies and be proactive instead of reactive. In short, you will discover a method of proactively identifying threats based on human behavior and cues from one's surroundings; this is my friends, the Full Circle Tactical System Combat Profiling Course.

Below are a few topics you will study with us:

  • Situation Awareness

  • The sensitivity of baseline and anomalies

  • Critical Thinking

  • Decision-making

We will dissect all the concepts above by exercises in field trips so you can see with your own eyes what was there the whole time, but you did know how and what to look for because of lack of training. By the end of this course, you will have a hunter's mindset rather than prey's. Until next time, be bold, be brave, and get some real training with us.
